Before you install SendGecko

Your browser or Windows may show a security prompt. Here's exactly what to do.

This is normal for new software. SendGecko is a young application — Windows and browsers flag executables until they've built enough download history to be trusted automatically. This does not mean the file is dangerous. The warning goes away on its own as more users install.

When you run the installer, Windows may show a blue screen titled "Windows protected your PC". This is Microsoft SmartScreen — it activates for all new apps from independent publishers, regardless of whether they're safe.

  1. Run the downloaded file. A blue SmartScreen screen appears.
You'll see the message: "Windows protected your PC — Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognised app from starting."
  2. Click More info (the small link below the message).
This reveals the app name and publisher, and unlocks the next button.
  3. Click Run anyway.
The installer will launch normally. SendGecko will install as expected.
Why does this happen? SmartScreen builds a "reputation score" based on how many people have downloaded an app. New apps always start at zero. As SendGecko grows, this prompt will stop appearing automatically.
